Some well known examples of horror movies are; Psycho (1960, psychological), The Shining (1980, psychological), The Exorcist (1973, religious), Wolf Creek (2005, true story), The Decent (2005, monster/ gore), Saw franchise (2004 – 2010, psychological/ gore), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003, gore).
Horror films are unsettling and designed to cause fear, dread, panic and alarm. They captivate and entertain us but at the same time invoke our worst fears. More often than not, a horror film will conclude with a shocking and frequently scary finale.
